2. Overview

FoveaRead is a speed reading app for Android. The app works offline-first – your reading texts, bookmarks, and settings are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to us. This privacy policy applies to the website fovearead.app and the FoveaRead Android app.

3. Website (fovearead.app)

3.1 Hosting

The website is hosted as a static site. When accessing the site, the hosting provider technically collects the following data in server log files:

  • IP address (potentially truncated)
  • Date and time of access
  • Requested page/file
  • HTTP status code
  • Browser and operating system
  • Referrer URL

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure provision of the website).

3.2 Web Analytics (Google Analytics)

The website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google Analytics is used exclusively on this website – the FoveaRead Android app does not use Google Analytics.

Google Analytics collects, among other things:

  • Page views and time on page
  • Device type, screen resolution, and operating system
  • Approximate location (country/region, based on IP address)
  • Referrer (how you reached the site)
  • Browser language

Google Analytics uses cookies to analyze user interactions. IP addresses are truncated by Google within the EU before being transferred to the USA. We do not have access to personal data of individual visitors – analysis is conducted exclusively in aggregated form.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in analyzing website usage to improve our offering).
More information: Google Privacy Policy

You can prevent data collection by Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.

3.3 Local Storage

For the dark mode setting, localStorage is used in the browser. This is purely local storage on your device and does not transmit any data to us or third parties.

4. FoveaRead App

4.1 Local Data

All content you import or create in FoveaRead (texts, bookmarks, reading progress, settings) is stored exclusively on your device. We have no access to this data.

4.2 Usage Analytics (TelemetryDeck)

To improve the app, we use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-friendly analytics service. TelemetryDeck collects:

  • Anonymized usage signals (e.g., which features are used)
  • Device type and operating system version
  • App version

TelemetryDeck collects no personal data, uses no cookies, and creates no user profiles. All data is hashed and anonymized before transmission. Identifying individual users is not possible.

You can disable usage analytics at any time in the app under: About > Privacy > Usage Analytics.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in improving the app).
More information: TelemetryDeck Privacy Policy

4.3 Subscription Management (RevenueCat)

For managing in-app subscriptions, we use RevenueCat. The following data is processed:

  • Anonymous app user ID
  • Purchase receipts and subscription status (via Google Play)
  • Device type and operating system

RevenueCat receives no personal data such as name, email, or location from us. Payment processing is handled entirely through Google Play.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract fulfillment).
More information: RevenueCat Privacy Policy

4.4 Google Play Store

The app is distributed through the Google Play Store. Google collects its own data as part of the Play Store, including:

  • Installation and uninstallation statistics
  • Crash reports and ANR data (Android Vitals)
  • Payment data for purchases (processed by Google)
  • Ratings and reviews

This data collection is the responsibility of Google. More information can be found in the Google Privacy Policy.

5. Data Transfer to Third Countries

Through the use of Google Analytics (website), RevenueCat, and Google Play, data may be transferred to the USA. These providers use EU Standard Contractual Clauses as the basis for data transfer.

6. Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Access (Art. 15 GDPR) – What data we have about you
  • Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) – Correction of inaccurate data
  • Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) – Deletion of your data
  • Restriction (Art. 18 GDPR) – Restriction of processing
  • Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) – Data in machine-readable format
  • Objection (Art. 21 GDPR) – Objection to processing

Since FoveaRead collects almost no personal data, deletion is not necessary in most cases. You can disable usage analytics in the app at any time. For inquiries, contact: hello@fovearead.app

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The responsible authority is:
